HOW TO REPORT PITUITARY MACROADENOMAS

Descrição sucinta do(s) objetivo(s)

We aim to highlight the significance of structured reporting, particularly in enhancing communication, minimizing errors, and supporting clinical decision-making. By focusing on the key elements of our structured report for pituitary macroadenomas, we illustrate the critical aspects that should be considered when analyzing these tumors. This approach not only ensures comprehensive and accurate documentation but also aids in providing clear, actionable insights for clinicians.

Descrição da(s) doença(s), método(s) e/ou técnica(s)

Managing a large macroadenoma presents significant challenges. To effectively assist clinicians and surgeons, our reports must deliver structured, comprehensive information. This presentation addressed key topics essential for thorough evaluation, including:

Tumor size and morphology
Extension and invasiveness
Signal intensity characteristics
Presence of hemorrhagic and cystic degeneration
Relationship to the optic chiasm
KNOSP classification for cavernous sinus involvement
Sphenoid sinus pneumatization patterns
Position of the normal pituitary gland
Presence of Onodi cells
Intercarotid distance assessment
Diagnostic tips and tricks
Identification of red flags for urgent clinical concern
By systematically addressing these elements, we aim to provide clinicians with the critical insights needed to optimize patient care and guide surgical planning.

Discussão

Structured reporting offers comprehensive and consistent information to referring physicians and other healthcare providers. By utilizing standardized terminology and formats, it reduces ambiguity and the risk of misinterpreting findings. It also helps avoid common errors, such as incomplete descriptions of tumor characteristics or overlooking critical anatomical relationships. Furthermore, structured reports provide essential details that support clinical decision-making, including potential treatment implications.

Conclusões

In conclusion, we emphasize the critical role of structured reporting in ensuring reproducibility, improving communication, and facilitating differential diagnosis. Most importantly, it directly contributes to better patient care by providing clear, consistent, and actionable information that supports clinical decision-making.
