Título
Beyond thickening: a case-based review of gallbladder findings for residents
Introdução e objetivo(s)
Learning about gallbladder diseases is crucial for radiology residents as these conditions are commonly encountered in clinical practice and can have serious implications if not diagnosed correctly. Radiologists play a key role in detecting and evaluating gallbladder pathologies, such as cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, and gallbladder tumors, through imaging modalities like ultrasound, CT, and MRI. Understanding these diseases helps residents to accurately interpret imaging findings, differentiate between various pathologies, and guide appropriate clinical management, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
The objective of this study is to provide a quick and thorough guide for radiologists and radiology residents to learn and quickly identify the most prevalent gallbladder pathologies.
Método(s)
We used a series of images to provide the context for each disease, suggesting an algorithm at the end to more easily identify each pathology.
Discussão
The gallbladder can be affected by a number of diseases, the most common one being acute cholecystitis. However, less common ones might not be so easily recognizable, but are just as important. Complications of cholecystitis, other inflammatory causes and tumors need to be recognized early in order to provide the best outcome and care for the patient.
Conclusões
Using the suggested algorithm, it is possible to easily identify what patology is being presented.
