Título

Impact of Uterine Artery Embolization in the Treatment of Myomas: A Bibliometric Analysis

Descrição sucinta do(s) objetivo(s)

The bibliometric analysis aims to examine the available literature and research on uterine artery embolization (UAE) for the treatment of myomas, identifying research trends and emerging topics to consolidate past achievements and encourage future research endeavors on its application.

Material(is) e método(s)

The analysis was conducted examining the entire Scopus database regarding the impact of UAE on treating myomas, utilizing relevant and appropriate English keywords. Articles were categorized by citation count, title, authorship, publication year, country, institution, and journal. Data visualization and analysis were performed with VOSviewer and the Bibliometrix package in RStudio.

Resultados e discussão

A total of 1,042 articles were reviewed. Research on uterine artery embolization has steadily increased, with a notable surge since 2004, reflecting an annual growth rate of 5.08%. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada lead in contributions, reflecting strong engagement in this minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids. Key studies are published in prominent journals like Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and ClinicoEconomics and Outcomes Research. This upward trend highlights the expanding role of UAE in fibroid management. The first results of treatment for uterine fibroids using UEA were described in 1995. Initially the main concern was the safety of the procedure, resolution of symptoms and whether the treatment was successful. As publications advanced, new techniques were used, combinations of procedures such as embolization before myomectomy or before hysterectomy for the treatment of fibroids, as well as concerns about the impact on the fertility of women who underwent the procedure.

Conclusões

Through the analysis carried out, it was possible to perceive a greater number of publications in english-speaking countries, with emphasis on North America, and in relation to journals it is possible to perceive a contrast of journals that address gynecology and interventional radiology. The number of publications per year demonstrates the relevance of the topic.
