Título
Prostatic Arterial Embolization for Refractory Hematuria of Prostatic Origin: A Bibliometric Analysis
Descrição sucinta do(s) objetivo(s)
This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of the available literature on Prostatic Arterial Embolization (PAE) for refractory prostatic hematuria. By examining publication trends and research impact, the study sought to identify key contributors, focus areas, and research gaps to guide future investigations.
Material(is) e método(s)
The analysis was conducted examining the entire Scopus database regarding PAE for refractory prostatic hematuria, using relevant and appropriate English keywords. Articles were categorized by citation count, title, authorship, publication year, country, institution, and journal. Data visualization and analysis were performed with VOSviewer and the Bibliometrix package in RStudio.
Resultados e discussão
A total of 25 publications were identified on the topic. Research activity has been increasing notably in the past five years, reflecting the growing recognition of PAE as a viable treatment option in the refractory prostatic hematuria context. High-impact journals, such as the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Urology, and BJU International, have published articles about the subject, underscoring its clinical relevance.Key areas of focus included procedural outcomes, technical advancements, and complex case management. The majority of studies originated from the United States, China, and France. The findings indicate that PAE for refractory prostatic hematuria has considerable potential, particularly for patients unsuitable for surgery, offering a minimally invasive alternative with promising impact.
However, the predominance of retrospective and observational studies poses a significant limitation, restricting the establishment of evidence-based guidelines. Rigorous research methodologies, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs), are essential to validate the long-term efficacy of PAE and refine clinical practices.
Conclusões
The substantial growth in research on the area demonstrated benefits and highlighted its potential, yet the lack of high-quality RCTs continues to hinder the standardization of its clinical use. Addressing this gap through rigorous studies is essential to optimizing the procedure and reinforcing its role in modern interventional radiology.
