ULTRASOUND-GUIDED ENDOVASCULAR DEVICES: WHAT EVERY RADIOLOGIST SHOULD KNOW
Introdução e objetivo(s)
Ultrasound has been gaining increasing prominence in the study of endovascular devices, primarily due to technological advancements and the development of transducers, allowing for improved resolution. Recognized as one of the best follow-up methods for these devices, ultrasound stands out for its non-ionizing radiation and the ability to be performed at the bedside. This study aims to demonstrate the typical appearance of these devices, along with the key observed alterations, utilizing cases from our Radiology group. The goal is to underscore the importance of ultrasound studies in recognizing both normal and altered aspects, particularly in emergency and elective contexts.
Método(s)
We utilized cases from the ultrasound group within our service to illustrate the significance of ultrasound in evaluating endovascular devices:
- Vena cava filter;
- TRICVALVE® - bicaval valve system;
- Abdominal aortic endoprosthesis;
- Carotid stent;
- Peripheral arterial stents.
Discussão
Ultrasound proves to be a crucial method in assessing endovascular devices, both in emergency scenarios and elective follow-ups. In this study, we address the importance and efficacy of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool for these devices. We present the normal appearance, examination documentation, key ultrasound findings, classical signs, and practical tips for evaluating and diagnosing major alterations.
Conclusões
Ultrasound plays a significant role by avoiding ionizing radiation and enabling bedside real-time diagnostics. Systematic evaluation of endovascular devices is pivotal for preventing diagnostic errors. Hence, a comprehensive understanding of the normal ultrasound appearance is fundamental for accurate assessment and early recognition of potential alterations.
